Protection, governance, security and sustainability
At the current global conjuncture, the world needs an economic transformation promoting sustainable well-being. This requires the articulation of the State, the Academy, social institutions, communities and the business sector.
In this context, the CEMarin and its associated institutions, in alliance with the Ocean Commission of Colombia-CCO and Conservation International-CI, with the support of the Foundation Malpelo and the Agenda del Mar, are launching the Manifesto for the Oceans of Colombia, integrating the commitments of these institutions. This, added to the actions of our environmental and business allies, the proposals of the Misión Internacional de Sabios in the focus of oceans and hydrobiological resources, as well as the documents of public policy led by the CCO, in particular the recent CONPES 3990 Colombia 2030: Sustainable Bioceanic Power, aiming to strengthen our maritime capacity and economic activities that arise from it.
The purpose of this Manifesto is to join efforts of the different sectors around research, education, management, control and surveillance actions in the coastal marine territories, to build clear and definitive strategies in the framework of governance, security and sustainable management of Colombia’s oceans. From the academic sector we aspire to a renovated vision of education is renewed, to generating technologies and access to spaces of open innovation, with study plans and lines of research that respond to these new priorities of the world.
