Colombia 2018: International Conference on Marine Science. Towards a sustainable ocean

The ‘Colombia 2018: International Conference on Marine Science’ brings together researchers, practitioners and educators to exchange and share their experiences in answering fundamental environmental and socio-economical questions related to marine ecosystems in Latin America. It provides an interdisciplinary forum for discussing environmental change and its impact on ecosystems and society, the sustainable use of marine and coastal ecosystems, as well as technological advances.
The conference will be open to students and professionals from all areas of marine science and is jointly organized by the CEMarin and the Interinstitutional Doctorate in Marine Sciences – DICM. The event will focus on five research themes:
- Marine environmental change: From species responses to environmental modeling
- Marine resources: Sustainable use in a changing world
- Ocean and society: The social dimension of ecosystem services
- Oceanography: Understanding the physical processes of atmosphere-ocean interactions
- Water waves: How the ocean affects life
Assistants will be actively involved in:
- Eight plenaries led by leading scientist
- 51 talks from experts and professionals
- Chatting with the keynote speakers
- Networking activities and group discussions
- Poster session
- Study visits to local research groups
- Award for the best talk
- The conference will be followed by the LatWaves2018: 3rd Latin American Symposium on Water Waves

Oral presentations
The talks will be conducted in English and will have a duration of 15 minutes (~12-13 minutes talk plus 2-3 minutes of questions by the public).
Posters
Vertical posters must not exceed the dimensions of 70 x 110 cm in width and height.
The speed talks for the poster session will be in English and will have a duration of 5 minutes.
Registration fee: $60.000 COP — US$ 20.00
